Mobile prostheses

Removable dentures, commonly known as dentures or removable dental appliances, are prosthetic devices used to replace multiple missing teeth or an entire dental arch. Movable dentures consist of a basic acrylic or zirconium framework that supports artificial teeth, reproducing the appearance and function of natural teeth.

There are two main types of removable dentures: complete dentures and partial dentures. Complete dentures, also known as full dentures, are used when all the teeth in an arch are missing. These dentures replace all missing teeth and cover the entire upper or lower dental arch. Partial dentures, on the other hand, are used when some teeth are missing but some natural teeth still remain. Partial dentures are supported by the remaining natural teeth and a metal framework or acrylic framework that attaches to the surrounding teeth.

FAQ

Types of fixed prostheses

Zirconium and fixed dentures are two types of highly esthetic and durable fixed dental restorations. Here is a brief description of both:

Zirconium fixed dentures: Zirconium fixed dentures are made using a basic framework of zirconium, a high-strength ceramic material. Zirconium offers a unique combination of durability, aesthetics and biocompatibility. This material is very resistant to fracture and chipping, making zirconium fixed restorations an excellent choice for patients with intense chewing or parafunctional habits. In addition, the aesthetic appearance of zirconia is similar to the color of natural teeth, providing a very natural result. Zirconium fixed dentures can be uti lized to replace one or more missing teeth and can be supported by dental implants or the remaining natural teeth.

Zirconium fixed dentures using CADCAM technology are fixed dental restorations.

Types of mobile prostheses

There are several types of removable dentures available to replace missing teeth. Here are some of the most common types of removable dentures:

Full dentures: Full dentures, or complete dentures, are used when all the teeth in an arch are missing. These dentures replace all missing teeth and cover the entire upper or lower dental arch. Complete dentures are made on an acrylic base that adapts to the shape of the gums and jaw bone. Artificial teeth are mounted on the acrylic base to restore chewing function and smile aesthetics.

Partial dentures: Partial dentures are used when some teeth are missing but some natural teeth still remain. These dentures consist of a metal or acrylic framework that attaches to the surrounding natural teeth, providing support and stability to the denture. Artificial teeth are attached to the framework to fill the spaces of the missing teeth.

Overdentures: Overdentures are an advanced form of dentures that attach to dental implants. Dental implants are inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone and serve as an anchor for the denture. Overdentures offer greater stability than traditional dentures and reduce the risk of movement or rubbing during chewing and speech.

Temporary dentures: Temporary dentures, as their name suggests, are used as a temporary solution during the healing period after tooth extraction or dental implant placement. These prostheses provide temporary functionality and aesthetics before permanent dentures are placed.

It is important to consult with a qualified dentist to determine which type of removable denture best suits your specific needs. The dentist will assess your clinical situation, oral health, and individual preferences to recommend the best prosthetic option.
